Rejuvenate your look.

The facial expressions we make everyday, such as laughing, smiling or frowning, can naturally cause lines and creases to develop on our faces over time, especially as the skin loses its natural elasticity. These lines are often associated with ageing or with looking tired and many of us would like the opportunity to refresh our appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injections – often referred to as ‘Botox’ – as this was the original brand name, contain the ingredient botulinum toxin type A – work by relaxing the muscles to soften lines, resulting in a more youthful appearance. The results usually take between 3-10 days to take effect and will last for around 3-6 months.

Injectable dermal fillers can also be used to plump out deep lines to offer a smoother appearance. Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in our bodies, and is broken down after 6-9 months.

Is it safe?

Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are perfectly safe when carried out by a registered and qualified practitioner, and you can rest assured that the Clyde Munro facial aesthetic team all are! Not only that, our dentists are well-placed to provide your treatment as they have an in-depth knowledge of the facial anatomy thanks to their advanced dental knowledge and training, providing you with the peace of mind that you are in safe hands.

Which areas can be treated?

With anti-wrinkle injections we can treat these three key areas:

• Forehead

• Frown lines between the eyebrows

• Eye area, often referred to as crow’s feet

With dermal fillers we can treat these three key areas:

• Lips augmentation to give thin, aged or asymmetrical lips a boost

• Nasolabial folds between the nose and mouth

• Marionette lines between the mouth and chin

How long do the effects last?

These treatments are not permanent and the effects will vary according to each patient; as a guide, anti-wrinkle injections last around 3-6 months and dermal fillers 6-9 months. Many patients like to have a top up to maintain their refreshed look, but if you choose not to, the results will gradually wear off and your muscles will return to regular function. Effectively, these injections help to halt the effects of time!

Will it hurt?

The injections are given using thin needles and our practitioners are highly trained so any discomfort will be kept to a minimum. Some areas are more sensitive than others, particularly the lips. Our dentists are able to offer anaesthetic as they would for your dental treatment. This means that the dermal fillers can be injected painlessly, allowing you to be at ease during your treatment. For most patients, anti-wrinkle injections leave no visible marks, although some people do experience a slightly raised red spot, which usually subsides after a few hours. Some swelling and/or bruising can be expected with dermal fillers, especially with lip augmentation, but this is short lived, normally no more than a few days, and your practitioner can offer advice on how to ease this.
