Invisalign (Clear Braces)
Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic treatment that allows patients with misaligned teeth to get a perfectly straight smile without anyone realising they are actually wearing braces! This treatment has been specifically designed to deliver the same benefits as traditional metallic or ceramic braces, however, the discreet aligner trays allow them to offer you an excellent aesthetic advantage.
How does Invisalign work?
With Invisalign treatment, the patient has a custom-made set of plastic aligners that are virtually invisible and fit comfortably over the teeth to gently shift them into the right position by moving them both vertically and horizontally; in fact, the teeth can even be rotated if necessary.
Benefits of Invisalign Braces
The Invisalign system allows patients to:
- Remove the device whenever they please, although at Clyde Munro we recommend this only for eating, brushing and flossing, or for a special occasion
- Eat whatever foods they enjoy
- Enjoy a significantly less noticeable and almost invisible tooth straightening treatment
- Feel more comfortable when wearing them, thanks to the smooth plastic that does not irritate the gums and cheeks. This makes the recommended 20 hours/day wear-time easily achievable.
The Invisalign process
During your first consultation at Clyde Munro, one of our experienced and highly-trained dentists will discuss your needs and evaluate if Invisalign treatment is the best option for you. If so, they will create 3D digital images of your teeth and map out a treatment plan that will suit your requirements. This will include the duration of the treatment and the exact movements of the teeth.
The next step is to have your aligners custom made; these will be replaced approximately every two weeks with a brand new set. Each set of Invisalign aligners is specifically designed to fit the position your teeth should be in by the end of the two-week period. This means that, at first, they might be slightly uncomfortable to wear.
Depending on the case, we may need to bond special white composite attachments (also hardly noticeable) to your teeth so that you can clip in the clear aligners more easily. These will be removed at the end of the treatment.
Taking care of your Invisalign aligners
Cleaning the aligners is very easy, simply brush and then rinse them in lukewarm water. You may also use the Invisalign cleaning kit just before you go to bed. Once the treatment is complete and the teeth have shifted to the right position, your dentist will give you custom-made retainers to wear, to ensure long-lasting results. This is a critical and necessary step after each orthodontic treatment because teeth tend to move back to their original position over time if retainers are not worn.
