Straighten Your Smile with Invisalign Clear Aligner Treatment

Published: 28 October 2021

If you have ever considered straightening your teeth, you’ve probably wondered about Invisalign treatment and whether it could be the right solution for you.

Patients with crowded, misaligned, unevenly spaced, or crooked teeth, are often concerned about the appearance of their smile and seek a discreet and comfortable solution. Invisalign clear aligner treatment, available at our practices across Scotland, is a fantastic option. It is completely tailored to you and your individual needs and, in many cases, patients achieve the smile of their dreams faster than they thought possible.

Invisalign treatment uses no brackets or wires, instead the system works via a series of clear aligners that gently move your teeth into the desired position over time. Comfortable to wear, easy to keep clean, and removable for eating meals… it will seamlessly fit around your daily routine, making this a great treatment for adults and teenagers.

What Is Invisalign Clear Aligner Treatment?

Invisalign treatment has been available for more than 20 years, making it the most advanced clear aligner system in the world, with plenty of fantastic results to prove its success. In fact, you probably already know at least one person who has had Invisalign treatment and is enjoying a straight smile as a result.

Almost invisible, Invisalign clear aligners are a fantastic solution for adults and teens who want to achieve a straighter smile but are put off traditional orthodontic braces with metal brackets and wires due to worries about how they will look during treatment. This is a legitimate concern and should be taken into consideration when thinking about your treatment options; there is no longer any need to feel self-conscious when straightening your teeth!

Invisalign clear aligners are comfortable to wear and so discreet that no one needs to know you’re having teeth straightening treatment. Each clear aligner is made from a patented thermoplastic called SmartTrack that is designed to be flexible enough that it doesn’t rub the gums and other soft tissues, but rigid enough for effective tooth movement… it’s very clever! With the ability to treat many different smile concerns, from simple to complex, many people are pleased to discover that Invisalign is a perfect solution for them.

All you need to do is book a consultation with your dentist who will be able to discuss your options based on your unique requirements. Your dentist will create a bespoke plan that will take into consideration your aesthetic smile goals, and you’ll even be able to see a predicted image of your smile in 3D.

At Clyde Munro we have treated hundreds of patients across Scotland with Invisalign clear aligners. We have a network of more than 50 practices across Scotland covering Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen, and even further afield, so we’re bound to be on your doorstep. How Does Invisalign Treatment Work?

It all starts with a digital scan that we use to plan your treatment and predict your smile. This will create a simulated image of how your teeth are expected to look after Invisalign treatment, meaning you see the results before your treatment even begins. These scans are then used to create your bespoke clear aligners.

Invisalign treatment works by wearing a series of clear aligners that will move your teeth into the desired position over time. Each clear aligner should be worn for 2-3 weeks and for 20-22 hours per day. The aligners are removable and should be taken out for eating meals and snacks, and for cleaning.

You also have the ability to remove your clear Invisalign aligners for important events, such as a presentation at work or attending a wedding, etc., but doing this often will result in longer treatment times. However, many of our patients don’t feel the need to remove their aligners in this way.

During your Invisalign treatment you will visit your dentist regularly so that they can check your progress, make adjustments to your treatment plan where required, and answer any questions you may have.

Invisalign Clear Aligners Vs Braces

Invisalign treatment works in a very different way to traditional braces. The system uses a series of clear aligners that fit over the teeth and gradually move the teeth into the desired position. Each aligner moves the teeth one step closer to the final result.

Traditional braces work by fitting brackets to the teeth and using wires to guide the teeth into position. These brackets are fixed into places for the duration of the treatment and are only removable by a dentist when it is complete. Invisalign clear aligners are removable so you will be able to take them out when you eat meals and for special occasions where necessary.

It is much easier to keep Invisalign clear aligners clean compared to traditional braces. When eating, the clear aligners should be removed, which means food never becomes trapped. As fixed braces cannot be taken out, food particles may get stuck between the teeth as well as the wires and brackets, which requires more maintenance.
