A Straighter Smile with Invisalign

Published: 28 September 2017

Having wonky or crooked teeth can often be a cause for many people to feel embarrassed about their smile. This can lead to shyness or covering their smile with their hand, or even avoiding social situations altogether. Feeling self-conscious about a smile can really hold a lot of people back from fully enjoying life or reaching their potential, whether in their career or in their social circle.

As children, many of us will have endured years of orthodontic treatment and for the lucky ones, this has meant that they enjoy excellent results and gorgeous smiles to be proud of. However, in some circumstances, the teeth may have moved out of alignment. This can be down to a variety of reasons, but it usually comes down to not wearing a retainer post-treatment. There are also people who never had orthodontic treatment at all, either because they weren’t offered it as a child, or they refused it altogether.

Whatever camp you fall in, you may have reached a stage in adulthood where you are sick of your teeth holding you back. The problem for many adults is that they don’t want to undergo years of unsightly ‘train track’ fixed braces and would prefer a more discreet alternative to achieve a straighter, more aesthetic smile.

The clear solution

The good news is that with modern technology you can have exactly that, with Invisalign. These are a series of clear aligners that gradually straighten the teeth. Each aligner is worn for two weeks and is designed to move the teeth into a different position each time, so by the end of the treatment, they will have pushed your teeth into a more desirable, straight position.

Not only are Invisalign aligners completely clear, making them almost invisible during wear, they are also removable. This means that patients can take them out during situations like work functions or presentations when they may feel self-conscious. Invisalign should also be removed for eating and drinking, which is excellent for a patient’s oral health during orthodontic treatment as there is no risk of getting food particles trapped.

At Clyde Munro, we are pleased to be able to offer Invisalign treatment to our patients. We find it to be an incredibly effective method of treatment, which gives patients the smile of their dreams. We also work hard with patients to ensure retention of their newly straightened teeth through the use of both a fixed and a night-time retainer. This helps to prevent the teeth from straying back into those more undesirable positions and allows our patients to enjoy their beautiful smiles forever.
