Dental bridges are artificial teeth that are fixed to neighbouring teeth. These are not designed to be removed and one or more teeth can be replaced. The artificial tooth is usually joined between two teeth that have been crowned. Sometimes this can be achieved by using only one neighbouring tooth. These next-door teeth support the replacement tooth or teeth and therefore bridge the gap.

Bridges are only possible if you have enough strong teeth with good bone support. Your dentist will help you decide if a bridge is the best way of replacing missing teeth.

The teeth involved are shaped in the same way as for a crown. As more teeth are involved, the procedure becomes more complex, time consuming and expensive. The main alternatives to a bridge are a denture or an implant(s).
