Banchory Dental Practice - Aberdeenshire

A dental extraction is a small operation to permanently remove a tooth from the jaw. At Banchory Dental Practice, dental extractions are performed under local anaesthetic. This means that you will be awake during the procedure and aware of what is going on. The main sensations you will be aware of are pressure and pushing but no pain. Routine, simple extractions normally take no longer than 20-30 minutes from sitting in the chair until leaving.

Some discomfort after the procedure is usual and infections can occasionally cause greater discomfort in the days after the extraction, instructions will be given at the time of the treatment to minimise these possible effects.

Depending on the reason as to why an extraction has been advised, alternative treatments may involve a large filling, crown and/or root treatment. As a preventive practice, an extraction is usually a last resort.
