Dental Hygiene
Keep your teeth and gums in tip-top condition.
At Clyde Munro we completely subscribe to prevention being better than cure. Good dental hygiene is an important habit to establish. Firstly, it helps you maintain a healthy mouth and clean teeth, free of bad breath and gum disease. Secondly, with regular visits, we can flag up any early warning signs, including screening for serious issues such as mouth cancer. Our dentists work hand in hand with our hygiene team. They’re at the front line of dental health, keeping your teeth and gums in top condition by preventing plaque and tartar from causing cavities and gum disease. We use two main strategies to achieve this. The practical approach, which involves carrying out a professional deep-clean, or scale and polish. And the educational approach, making sure your diet and lifestyle aren’t impacting negatively on your oral health, and equipping you with the skills and techniques for effective oral hygiene at home.
Air Polishing
Available at Clyde Munro practices across Scotland, this highly effective cleaning system provides an enhancement to a traditional scale and polish. It removes stubborn stains and plaque by using a fine stream of air mixed with water and fine powder on the tooth surface. Air polishing is gentler than a traditional scale and polish, even when cleaning under the gum line. In addition to treating gum disease and giving your teeth a thorough clean, air polishing is a great way to prepare for teeth whitening and to help maintain the whiteness of your smile long after you’ve invested in a whitening treatment. Your dentist may also recommend air polishing if you’ve had restorations or dental implants, all of which require careful monitoring of oral hygiene. For anyone who wears braces, air polishing means we can clean more effectively during treatment and restore your enamel to full health afterwards.
Philips Sonicare
Helping our patients to maintain their oral health both in the practice and at home is one of our key priorities at Clyde Munro. That’s why we are proud to stock the Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush at our practices across Scotland. The Philips Sonicare will guide you between hygiene check-ups. Giving you up to 7x healthier gums vs a manual toothbrush*, the Philips Sonicare makes oral health simpler than ever; built-in smart sensors let you know when to adjust your brushing pressure and the Sonicare App’s Progress Report help you stick to your brushing routine**.
