Root Canal

The routine way to treat decay.

Root canal treatment is now considered as routine as getting a filling. Sometimes it can even save your tooth. So, it’s nothing to fear if your Clyde Munro dentist recommends it for you. Sometimes the inner soft tissue of your tooth, or dental pulp, can become infected due to trauma or deep decay. (toothache, swelling, and sensitivity to hot and cold are often tell-tale signs.) Far from causing discomfort, root canal treatment eliminates the pain, clearing the infection and sealing the inside of your tooth to prevent re-infection.

The root canal procedure explained

Root canal treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and is pretty simple, rather like getting a filling. Once the tooth is completely numb, the dentist uses a series of tiny instruments to open up the tooth and remove any infection. A temporary filling is usually placed on top and a permanent restoration is completed at a separate appointment.
