SmilePlus Dental Care & Implant Centre

Born and bred in Edinburgh, Azy Darvishzadeh joined the SmilePlus practice in March 2023 having also worked in West Lothian and Horsham in over a decade of dental practice. She earned her degree from Dundee University in 2011, following it up with a postgraduate certificate in sports dentistry which is where her special interest lies. She has been part of the pitch side medical team at Boroughmuir Bears since 2019 and Currie Chieftains since 2022, and supported the Scottish boxing team at the Commonwealth Games in 2022. She now provides medical cover for Edinburgh Rugby and Scottish Rugby as part of the SmilePlus Dental Care team.

Azy is trained in Inman aligner treatment (discreet and removable aligners), composite bonding and dental trauma management. She is also the regional rep for Dental Trauma UK so has dealt with many complex dental trauma cases. She is passionate about delivering routine dentistry to the highest standard.

In her spare time, Azy follows most sports and enjoys unwinding in the swimming pool.

Practice Principal, Fiona Davidson, graduated from the Royal London Hospital in 1986. Fiona moved into General Dental practice after two years working in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal London, St Mary’s and The Eastman Hospitals in London.

In 2007, Fiona bought the existing practice at 4 Glasgow Road and SmilePlus Dental Care was born. In the same year, Fiona became the Official Dentist to the Scottish Rugby Union, which involves delivering general and emergency dental care to the professional and academy players, and the provision of custom-made mouth guards.

Over the years, Fiona’s love of Sports Dentistry has grown and, as well as the Scotland Rugby stars, she also looks after the dental health of International athletes, swimmers, hockey players and boxers.

Fiona is also a trained Invisalign® Gold dentist and enjoys providing this adult-friendly teeth straightening treatment. She is an experienced provider of facial aesthetic treatments including anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatments, and has trained in advanced techniques.

Fiona lives in East Lothian with her Springer Spaniel, Poppy, and has three grown up children.

Alketa has almost 2 decades of experience in dentistry as both a principal and associate dentist. She has also served as a VT trainer and was actively involved in mentoring and training new dentists entering the profession.

Alketa has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and as an Invisalign, SureSmile and SmileFast provider, she attends regular courses to keep up to date with new developments in this field. In addition, she is a qualified medical aesthetics practitioner and offers a wide range of facial aesthetics treatments while continuing training in more advanced techniques.

As a mother of two, outside work, Alketa loves spending time with her family exploring the Scottish outdoors with their family dog.

King began his career as a Dental Technician in 2019 with an amazing opportunity of an apprenticeship. Graduated and qualified in 2014 from Telford college in Edinburgh with a HNC in Dental Technology, he has seen the running of a dental laboratory, and in awe by how technology in the dental industry has evolved and can aid the accuracy and efficiency of production.

King is keen in sports, from mountain biking in the summer to snowboarding in the winter. He understands the importance of oral protection and the confidence that a custom-made mouthguard can provide.

Since starting in 2023 at SmilePlus Dental care, King has had the opportunity to learn much about sports dentistry through conferences and through the experienced dentists at SmilePlus. Also working with Scottish Rugby and Scottish Hockey to provide the first line of defence for the players’ oral protection.

In his spare time, King enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, taking them cycling and walks, enjoying the Scottish countryside.
