As Scotland’s leading dental group, Clyde Munro took a central role sharing our sustainability milestones, targets and hopes for the wider sector at the recent long-awaited Scottish Dental Show.
As part of our ambition to become Scotland’s environmentally friendly dentist, we became the inaugural net zero sponsor at the biggest event in Scottish dentistry’s calendar.
It represented an opportunity for us to share our ESG (environmental, social, governance) strategy with the more than 2000 delegates attending the event in late June at Glasgow’s Braehead Arena.
The net zero sponsor role allowed Clyde Munro to present a lecture to share our experiences pursuing sustainable ways of working throughout the business, while our green, forest-themed “Grow with Clyde Munro” stall won “Best Stand” at the show.
Fiona Wood, Chief Operating Officer with Clyde Munro, said: “It’s important to us that we are at the forefront of the dental profession’s much needed green transformation. There is so much the sector can do to improve when it comes to sustainability and we’ve looked closely at every tiny detail to see where we can avoid unnecessary waste. We were delighted with the impact that Clyde Munro made at the Scottish Dental Show and our commitment to sharing knowledge with our industry peers has certainly paid off.”
Amy Reilly, Head of Commercial Finance and ESG with Clyde Munro, said: “After three years away due to the pandemic it was a thrill to be back at the Scottish sector’s biggest show, meeting with new and familiar faces alike. It served as the ideal opportunity for us to talk about our own ESG journey, what we’ve implemented and what we’ve learned along the way.
To reduce its carbon emissions, Clyde Munro has ensured that all its practices are switching to renewable energy providers, replacing all incandescent filament bulbs with modern LEDs and integrating a fleet of electric vehicles for travel, along with on-site EV charging points.
In addition, Clyde Munro is an avid supporter of recycling initiatives – all our dental products will be sent to Philips Dental Care Recycling Programme and all used ink cartridges to Recycle 4 Charity for repurposing.
We have significantly reduced the use of paper across all our 60+ practices through a paperless patient journey, while getting rid of single-use plastic cups.
Our flagship eco-practice, Glencoe Dental Centre has undergone an extensive makeover to become more environmentally friendly, serving as the benchmark for all its practices. The premises now features a beehive – which is ready to welcome a colony of bees in spring – bird feeders and baths, as well as a wildflower garden planted by children from the local primary school.
Through showcasing our strong commitment to sustainability at the Scottish Dental Show, Clyde Munro hope to attract dentists to work at the company as it seeks to navigate the nationwide shortage of dentists, felt particularly in rural practices.
Our stated ambition is to become Scotland’s “local dentist”, operating an expanding network of family dentists across Scotland, each devoted to providing the best dental care while reflecting the needs and character of its local community.
Clyde Munro is committed to raising the standards of care in rural communities. In total, more than a third of our practices are outside of Scotland’s seven cities and we operate practices from the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway to Orkney.
