Understanding Denplan Care and Why Patient Assessments Are Important
Published: 07 October 2026
At Clyde Munro Dental Group, we have practices located all over Scotland. Each practice is independently managed by its Practice Manager and supported by a dedicated team. This allows practices to offer services and payment options that best suit the needs of their local patients.
Many of our practices offer Denplan Care, a payment plan that allows patients to spread the cost of their routine dental care through manageable monthly payments rather than paying the full amount at the time of treatment.
Denplan Care is a popular option for many of our patients, helping make dental care more predictable and easier to budget for. Please note that Clyde Munro Dental Group and Denplan are separate companies, with Denplan acting as the administrator of the plan.
Many patients across Clyde Munro practices choose Denplan Care to support their oral health through regular, preventative care. It provides a convenient way to maintain your dental health while spreading the cost of treatment throughout the year.
As part of providing the best possible care, dental practices regularly review their patients’ Denplan payment plans. Below, we explain what Denplan Care is, how it works, and how your dentist ensures it mains appropriate for individual patient need.
What is Denplan Care?
Denplan Care is a private dental health maintenance plan designed to help patients maintain good oral health through regular care and preventative treatment.
Under Denplan Care:
- You have a contract directly with Clyde Munro Dental Group as the owner of your dental practice
- Denplan acts as the administrator of the plan
- You pay a monthly fee that helps cover ongoing dental care
- You have the option to add Denplan Dental Emergency and Injury Cover for an additional protection against unexpected dental emergencies and injuries
Your monthly payment allows your dentist to focus on preventing dental problems before they arise, rather than only treating issues when they occur. It also allows patients to pay a fixed amount every month towards their oral care, rather than paying for the full treatment in one payment at the time of the appointment, making care more accessible.
What is Denplan Care?
Denplan Care is a private dental health maintenance plan designed to help patients maintain good oral health through regular dental care and preventative treatment.
With Denplan Care:

- You have the option to add Denplan Dental Emergency and Injury Cover for an additional protection against unexpected dental emergencies and injuries.
By paying a regular monthly amount, Denplan Care allows dentists to focus on preventing dental problems before they arise, rather than simply treating issues when they occur.
It also allows patients to spread the cost of their dental care, making treatment costs more manageable and helping patients maintain consistent oral health without unexpected large payments at the time of an appointment.
What does Denplan Care cover?
Denplan Care is designed to cover your ongoing dental maintenance, which typically includes:
- Regular dental examinations
- Preventative advice and care
- Necessary routine dental treatment
- Preventative hygiene care (as recommended by your dentist)
However, some aspects of dental care may require additional fees, such as:
- Specialist treatments
- Referrals to dental specialists
- Laboratory fees for items like crowns or dentures
- Prescription charges
- Private treatments (orthodontics, dental implants, whitening etc)
Your dental team will always explain any potential costs before treatment begins.
Why do dentists reassess Denplan patients?
Denplan recommends that dentists review patient categories on an ongoing basis. This helps ensure that each patient is contributing the appropriate monthly amount based on their dental health needs.
These categories are based on factors such as:
- Your dental history
- The time required for your dental care
- Preventative treatment needs
- Hygiene appointments
Reassessments help ensure the system remains fair for all patients, so no one is paying more – or less – than the care they require.
Why reassessments happen
Over time, dental needs can change. Some patients may require:
- More time with their dentist
- Additional hygiene support
- Replacement of previous dental work, such as fillings, crowns or bridges
Regular reassessments help ensure your Denplan category reflects your current dental health and care requirements.
Many patients will see no change at all to their monthly payments. However, for some patients, a reassessment may result in:
- A different Denplan category
- A change to the monthly fee
These changes help ensure practices can continue to provide high-quality care and appropriate appointment time for every patient.
The role of hygiene appointments
Dental hygienists play an important role in helping patients maintain good gum health and prevent dental problems.
Some patients may initially require more frequent hygiene visits to help improve gum health through education and personalised oral hygiene advice.
Once a good level of oral health has been achieved, many patients can then move to routine hygiene visits twice per year, unless further care is needed.

At Clyde Munro Dental Group, we are committed to continuously investing in:

These investments allow us to provide high-quality dental care for every patient.
Denplan Care continues to offer excellent value by supporting preventative care and helping patients maintain their oral health long term.
