Gilmore Dental Practice

James has been a dentist with Gilmore Dental Practice for four years, and a patient here for almost 40. After dabbling in ancient history at Cambridge he saw the light and found his caring vocation, travelling to study dentistry at King’s College London. Following a final detour practicing hospital dentistry in Newcastle, he returned home to Tollcross.

James is a family general dentist who takes pride in his compassionate approach, working hard to make dentistry comprehensible, calming, and comfortable. He also treats simple orthodontic cases with the Invisalign clear aligner system, helping to achieve beautiful smiles in a non-invasive way.

In his free time, James is a film buff, amateur chef and lapsed bagpiper.

Dr James has been a practitioner in Edinburgh for over 15 years and joined Gilmore Dental Practice back in 2017. He is interested in aesthetic dentistry and has obtained a master’s in this field of treatment from King’s College London. The full range of treatments that he provides in this practice complements this well. 

These treatments include composite bonding, aesthetic crowns and veneers, Invisalign orthodontic options and implant placement with restoration after. This allows him to treat cases of all types of complexity and restore patients’ smiles. 

Outside of work, he enjoys scuba diving and enjoying the wonderful marine life both locally around Scottish waters and also furth afield in more tropical environments.

With over 20 years of delivering good quality dental care in general practice, and experience gathered from working in Special Needs and Anxiety Management, Ruth is the perfect clinician for putting patients at ease and ensuring a positive dental experience. 

She is enthusiastic about periodontal treatment, and her patients benefit from her approach to preventative dental care. She practices facial aesthetics and offers SureSmile orthodontic treatment to enhance smiles. 

Outwith the practice, Ruth has an interest in nutrition and sustainability and is a keen artist when time allows. 

Originally from Northumberland, Sam graduated from the University of Glasgow and has since worked in the northeast of Scotland and Edinburgh. He strives to achieve the best result for each individual, whilst getting to know them in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

His main interest is providing high-quality general dentistry. He also enjoys aesthetic dental treatments and is trained in SmileFast, composite bonding and teeth straightening with clear aligners.

Outside of work, Sam trains and occasionally races in cycling.
