When to Get a Sports Dentistry Check-Up?
If you play high-contact sports, regular dental check-ups are essential. Busy training schedules can make it easy to overlook oral care, but skipping routine exams and hygiene appointments increases the risk of dental emergencies- even if you’ve never had issues before.
What Happens at a Sports Dentistry Check-Up?
During a sports dentistry check-up, your dentist will check for early signs of dental problems and provide preventive care. X-rays may be taken if needed, along with advice on maintaining strong, healthy teeth.
Wisdom teeth will be assessed, and if they are partially erupted or could weaken the jaw during contact sports, removal may be recommended as a preventative measure.
As athletes are at higher risk of enamel erosion from sports and energy drinks, your dentist can also check for damage and advise on protection.
If a sports mouthguard is required, digital scans can be taken and completed at the same appointment to create a custom-fitted guard for optimal protection and comfort.
